Maja Włoszczowska and Ariane Lüthi took 4th place In the third stage of the Absa Cape Epic and fell in the general classification in the third position. Sergio Mantecón and Ondřej Cink won the Dimension Data Hotspot, and in next stages they will still be focused on the stage winning.
The level of difficulty at the third Absa Cape Epic Stage (107 kilometers, over 2000 meters ascent) and unfavorable weather conditions made, that the battle for the top positions was possible only for the strongest riders. Kross-Spur riders: Sergio Mantecón and Ondřej Cink were riding very actively. Just after the start they attacked, and won the Dimension Data Hotspot. The Czech-Spanish duo lost their chances in the general classification after the first stage, but declared, that they will be focused on the stage wins and Hotspots. For now, they fulfilled their promises superbly.
Maja Włoszczowska and Ariane Lüthi had lots of misfortune during the stage. Due to technical problems, they lost a lot of time to the leaders and dominators: Annika Langvad and Anna van der Breggen (Investec-Songo-Specialized). Maja and Ariane also fell in the general classification on the 3rd position .
- Today’s stage was a real survival – said Włoszczowska. – We lost a lot of time right after the start, and later – lots of our power to chase our rivals. – she added.
Thursday’s time trial may be a good way to reduce the gap. 43-kilometers course with the start and the finish point in the Oak Valley suits our riders very well.
