The fifth stage of the Absa Cape Epic was definitely the hardest one. During the 100 kilometers distance, ridershad to climb over 2800 meters. Started from the well known Oak View, they moved to the Stellenbosch, where the little town built for the race purpose is located.
Ondřej Cink and Sergio Mantecón were top GC riders for a long time, but unfortunately, crash of the Spaniard, spoiled dreams of duo about winning – their main goal. Fortunately, there is still a chance to acheive this.
Friday was a difficult day for Maja Włoszczowska/Ariane Lüthi duo. Kross-Spur Racing riders finished on the 5th position after over five hours battle. The stage took Candice Lill i Adelheid Morath (Summit Fin). In the GC Włoszowska and Lüthi are still 3rd, with over an eight minutes of time advantage to Jennie Stenerhag and Mariske Strauss (Silverback-Fairtree).
Only two stages of the Absa Cape Epic are to go. On Saturday riders ride 89, and on Sunday – 70 kilometers.
