Sergio Mantecón
joins the Kross Racing Team

The 34-year-old Spaniard will be riding in the new season in the same team as Maja Włoszczowska and others. The European vice-champion in 2012 has just signed a contract with the Polish mountain biking team belonging to the KROSS brand.

This is the next important transfer since the Czech competitor Ondřej Cink officially joined the KRT in November of this year. The latest addition to the team is Sergio Mantecón, who has plenty of experience in mountain biking, road  and cross-country cycling. The list of his greatest sporting achievements includes second place in the World Cup XC race at Windham in 2012. In the same year at the European championships in Moscow he also reached second place on the podium. In 2013 in the World Cup competitions at Albstadt, he was again second to cross the finish line. Two years later, in the next World Cup race at Windham, he finished in 4th place. In addition, in the world championships at Nové Mĕsto in 2016 he was the seventh competitor to cross the finish line.

Mantecón has also successfully tested his skills in road cycling competitions. He can boast, for example, victory at Cinturón a Mallorca, Spain, which in the past was won by such names as Bradley Wiggins and Luis Henao.

The Spaniard was also invited in 2018 by Maja Włoszczowska to her cyclical event - the Jelenia Góra Trophy Race, which is the most highly-classified Polish XC. There he managed to attain second place, behind only his current teammate, Ondřej Cink.

“I’m really thrilled and grateful for the opportunity I’ve been offered by the KROSS team. It’s a team made up of professionals, who – just like me – have an enormous amount of enthusiasm and sporting spirit, who always give it their best. I’m convinced that together we’ll be able to achieve a lot,” says Sergio Mantecón.

Kornel Osicki, manager of the Kross Racing Team, has bold plans for the Spaniard.

“I’m really pleased that the team has acquired another top competitor in mountain biking. I know that Sergio is a very experienced sportsman, who will have a positive effect on the team’s strength. We’ve planned his first competition for the end of January, at the stage race in Spain,” comments Kornel Osicki.
